Explaining Health Reform Briefs from the Kaiser Family Foundation The Kaiser Family Foundation has issued three "Explaining Health Reform" briefs that discuss several key elements of the new law:"Questions about the Temporary High Risk Pool" answers basic questions about the temporary national high-risk pool that will be created under the reform law to provide health coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions who have been uninsured for at least six months. This brief is available at: www.kff.org/healthreform/8066.cfm "Questions About the Extension of Dependent Coverage to Age 26" discusses the provision in the law that requires private insurers that offer dependent coverage to children to allow young adults up to age 26 to remain on their parent's insurance plan. This brief is available at: www.kff.org/healthreform/8065.cfm Experts Provide Overview of the Health Reform Law A full understanding of the new laws related to health care is essential to further discussion of reform issues, including how implementation will be approached. To answer common questions about the major provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, the Alliance for Health Reform and The Commonwealth Fund assembled a panel of well-qualified experts. Topics covered by the Issue Briefs include a brief on general health reform issues, a brief focused on Medicaid, one focused on Medicaid-related provisions, and one focused on long term services and supports. All DDPC meetings are held in Albany, NY unless otherwise noted. Under law, the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) meetings and DDPC Standing Committee meetings are open meetings. If the public wants to attend, they can attend as observers. Participants may be asked to leave during breaks in the deliberations and when the meeting goes into executive session.
