Caregivers Can Get Help Paying for Summer Camp The following link(s) will open in one new tab or window. Should you have any questions regarding this article, please follow the specific contact information provided. Summer is here and the children are out of school, bursting with energy. Summer camp is a great way to creatively focus that energy and give relative caregivers some respite. To help pay for this respite, children may be eligible to receive a “child only” grant. When children are living with non-parents the caregiver may apply on behalf of the child for a “child only” grant. Children are eligible for such grants regardless of the income of the adult non-parent caregivers. Relative caregivers who receive a “child only” grant for the children in their care are automatically eligible for camp fee assistance. Camp fees can be utilized to provide respite for nonparent caregivers. When funds cannot be obtained from another source, camp fees of up to $400 per year can be paid per child. Eligibility for this grant may vary depending on location, so check with your local Social Services for specific eligibility requirements. Another source of funding for summer camp can be a child care subsidy administered through the local social services day care unit. Children who are already receiving a subsidy for after school child care are eligible for a child care subsidy for the hours that the caretaker is employed. For more information on “child only” grants visit your local Social Services or go to: www.nysnavigator.org/files/legal/public_assistance.pdf www.nysnavigator.org/legal/documents/Publicassistanceguide2.pdf In order for you to view the PDF's which follow the links above, you will need Adobe Reader.
